“Join Farm to School BC’s Northwest Regional Hub for a seed saving workshop!
Join us for the launch of the Northwest Regional Hub’s Seed Library! Jolene Swain of Short Season Seeds will be presenting on planting, planning and harvesting for seed saving, specifically in the Northwest BC climate.
This session is open to everyone!
About the Presenter: Jolene Swain
Jolene is a seed farmer and biologist and has been tending seed crops on Gitxsan territory at WoodGrain Farm since 2015, where seed production has been increasingly integrated into the 1-acre market garden. As a member of the BC Eco Seed co-op, WoodGrain farm’s “Short Season Seeds” produce high-quality seed, with careful attention to isolation distances, trait selection, and genetic diversity (including open-pollinated and open-source seed). With a focus on varieties that perform well in a Northern climate, growing seed crops is also part of being part of a growing network of seed savers and keeping seeds in the hands of people, not corporations.
Jolene is always happy to talk about seed saving and is excited to be part of the growing movement for seed and food sovereignty in BC.”
