A one woman textile and fine art studio utilizing sustainable materials from earth pigments to natural dyes. Kenya’s work honors ancient practices while harmoniously drawing on a distinctive contemporary voice. From the valleys of Oaxaca\, Mexico to the red clay roads of Ntonso\, Ghana\, Kenya’s process is a ledger of years of wandering and apprenticing around the globe. Kenya has facilitated workshops at the Berkeley Art Museum\, Headlands Center for the Arts\, and the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden. She was a guest artist at BMA’s “The Possible” and recently had a solo exhibition “The Central Sun” in San Francisco. In January 2020\, Kenya founded Blue Light Junction\, a natural dye studio\, processing center\, alternative color lab\, retail space\, dye garden & educational facility in central Baltimore. Blue Light Junction focuses on growing\, processing\, and preserving the history of natural dyes and their artistic\, practical\, and commercial applications. Kenya is an avid traveler\, gardener\, and above all else Indigo’s mother (her son). \nSun (Bobby) English Jr. (they/them/she/her) is a QTPOC herbalist\, farmer\, educator\, and ritual performance artist of African and Accohannock descent from Baltimore. They spend their days creating with Earth\, Wood\, Voice\, and Metal; whether that be in the family farm\, wood shop\, metal shop\, or the apothecary. Sun comes from a rich lineage of farmers\, resistance fighters\, and community gatherers. \nThey are working towards a vision for the future that exists beyond the systems of oppression via many different land based projects. Currently the Liberation Seed Farm in VA\, and the Baltimore Natural Colors Initiative in MD. Sun believes that the practice of land stewardship is synonymous with practicing freedom\, and they are feeling wonderful to be part of the great turning.”

After receiving a B.S. in Agricultural and Ecological Sciences from The Evergreen State College in 2009\, Erik coordinated the South Puget Sound Small Farms Program with WSU Extension and Mason Conservation District; providing education\, research and farm planning/technical assistance for producers in the region. Erik relocated to Pennsylvania in 2015 to work with the USDA Agricultural Research Service at the Pennsylvania State University while working towards a Master’s in Ecology. His research focused on alternative riparian buffer and water quality management strategies for enhancing ecosystem services within agricultural landscapes. During this time\, Erik developed and managed a diversified agroforestry farm while co-coordinating outreach and training programs on agroforestry opportunities specific to the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region. Erik is excited to join the Savanna Institute and the Midwest community in discovering\, developing and promoting resilient and regenerative models of agroecosystems for the Midwest and beyond. \n[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_text admin_label=”Thank you Sponsors” _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”] \nThank you sponsors!\n[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2\,1_4\,1_4″ admin_label=”Change sponsor images below” _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/8a16aa22-741f-4b64-a4d1-200c946986a7.jpg” title_text=”8a16aa22-741f-4b64-a4d1-200c946986a7″ _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image _builder_version=”4.18.0″ _module_preset=”default” title_text=”AFT-logo” src=”https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/AFT-logo-scaled.jpg” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_4″ _builder_version=”4.17.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
