SUMMARY:Regional Food System Partnerships
DESCRIPTION:USDA Agricultural Marketing Service requests applications for the fiscal year 2021 Regional Food System Partnerships (RFSP) grant program. Approximately $15.3 million will be available. The RFSP supports partnerships that connect public and private resources to plan and develop local or regional food systems. The RFSP focuses on building and strengthening local or regional food economy viability and resilience\, and this includes pandemic response and recovery. Applicants will work with their partners to catalyze the development of local or regional food systems. Applicants will coordinate efforts within the partnership to set priorities\, connect resources and services\, and measure progress towards common goals. RFSP Planning and Design projects range from $100\,000 to $250\,000. Implementation and Expansion projects range from $250\,000 to $1 million. Matching funds of 10% to 25% are required\, depending upon the funding source.\nApplications are due by July 6\, 2021.

Carmen Fernholz of A-Frame Farm\, has been growing Kernza since 2011. A-Frame Farm manager\, Luke Peterson\, started growing and marketing Kernza in 2018\, and now manages 30+ acres of the UMN variety\, MN-Clearwater. In 2020\, Carmen\, Luke\, and Kernza growers across Minnesota formed a co-op called Perennial Promise Growers Co-op (PPGC). Carmen\, Luke\, and others from PPGC will share the vision for the co-op and how they are working with industry and researchers to grow\, market\, and champion Kernza.

Natasha and family use regenerative agriculture practices to restore the soil health because what is best for the land- and the plants and animals on it- is also what is best for human health.
