SUMMARY:Information Sharing Call: Opportunities and Challenges in the LFPA
DESCRIPTION:The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service established the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement (LFPA) initiative last year — an unprecedented $400 million investment in local and regional food systems. As a refresher: the LFPA funds state and tribal governments to procure local and regional foods\, with an emphasis on “socially disadvantaged” producers\, and partner with community-based organizations\, food pantries\, and other partners to distribute fresh food to underserved communities \nThis is a big deal for the sector\, with implications for future federal procurement initiatives. With support from The Rockefeller Foundation\, Wallace Center is kicking off a new 2-year initiative to support the successful implementation of the LFPA\, and we want to hear from you! \nWallace Center will be hosting a pop-up call to bring together the broader community of LFPA implementers—that is the community-based organizations and businesses\, food hubs\, farmers associations\, nonprofits\, and food banks\, making it happen. Join this call to connect with people across the nation and learn how other states and tribal governments are organizing around the LFPA. During our time together you will be working in small groups to get a lay of the land\, share strategies\, discuss challenges\, identify TA needs\, and build a community of support. \nJoin us! Register Here! Tuesday August 23rd at 1:00 pm PDT/ 3:00 pm CDT/ 4:00 pm EDT

SUMMARY:NIFA Nutrition Security Webinar Series: National 4-H Conference Nutrition Security Roundtable Team – Youth Perspectives On Tackling Food And Nutrition Insecurity
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, August 23\, from 5 to 6 p.m. EDT\, youths will share their perspectives on tackling food and nutrition insecurity with an emphasis on the role of 4-H\, which empowers nearly 6 million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The webinar panelists participated in the 2022 National 4-H Conference (N4HC) this past March\, which is the premier youth development opportunity of the USDA. During this conference\, each of these team members volunteered to participate in a roundtable focused on providing feedback on the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture’s Nutrition Security efforts. Now known as the N4HC Nutrition Security Roundtable Team\, these youths will use this NIFA Nutrition Security Webinar edition to share their insightful thoughts with a wider audience outside of the N4HC attendees. During the webinar discussion time\, NIFA staff will share how they are working to integrate this team’s recommendations in their work ahead. Webinar attendees are welcomed to ask questions and provide feedback as NIFA and 4-H work to accelerate progress on tackling food and nutrition insecurity and fostering meaningful opportunities for youth engagement in our efforts.
